The Northern Governorate is one of the four governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is in the northwestern side of the mother island of Bahrain. It consists of 12 constituencies and 153 statistical blocks. It has a population of 378,228 according to the population census of 2014, which is available on the website of the Information & eGovernment Authority.

The Northern Governorate has 41 villages, cities and islands, including Hamad Town, which was established in 1984, and the Northern City, which was opened in May of 2018. Among its areas are Karana, Jannusan, Barbar, Diraz, Al Markh, Bani Jamra, Budaiya, Janabiya, Jasra, Hamala, Jabalat Habshi, North Sehla, Al-Qadam, Bu Quwah, Salmabad, Hawrat Aali, Aali, Maqaba, Saar, Buri, Damistan, Karzakan, Al-Malikiyah, Al-Jisr Island, Jidda Island, Um Al-Naasan Island.

The northern governorate is characterized by the presence of most of the antiquities in the Kingdom, the most important of these sites are Ain Umm al-Sujur, Barbar Temple, Madinat Hamad Burial Mound Fields, Saar Settlement,  Hajj Tombs,  Jannusan  Hills, Aali Burial Mounds, Saar Burial Mounds, and Saar Temple.

One of the new features in the Northern Governorate is the first environmental educational park in the Janabiya area, block 575. It reflects a technological interface with environmentally friendly garden furniture, intended for various segments and groups of society, including those with special needs.

It should be noted that the green space in the northern area has increased to 1,054,527.4 square meters, which raises the per capita share of green space, according to the population census of the area in 2014, to 2.79 square meters per person.
