Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Inspects Muharraq Central Market in Preparation for the Holy Month of Ramadan
H.E. Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, conducted a visit to the Muharraq Central Market to review its readiness and the flow of commercial activity in anticipation of the upcoming month of Ramadan.
During the visit, the Minister emphasized the Ministry's commitment to continuing the development of central markets in line with the needs of market visitors. He highlighted the importance of providing all necessary services to accommodate the needs of traders and vendors. The Muharraq Central Market, developed and recently renovated by the Ministry in collaboration with the private sector, stands out as one of the major central markets in Bahrain. It plays a crucial role in supplying food products to the Muharraq Governorate and neighboring areas.
H.E. underscored the significance of the Muharraq Central Market development project as a model for enhancing central markets in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that this visit reflects the commitment to delivering advanced municipal services to citizens and residents with the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
Al-Mubarak commended the significant progress observed at the Muharraq Central Market, particularly in the enhancement of its facilities, infrastructure, and the services offered to both visitors and workers, ensuring they meet the expectations of the market’s clientele and address their diverse needs.
The Minister further emphasized the Ministry's ongoing commitment to enhancing central markets throughout Bahrain, highlighting that the Riffa Central Market was upgraded last year. He also mentioned that the Ministry is currently working on several initiatives, including the establishment of a new central market in Hamad Town.
He also underscored the significance of collaboration with the private sector in developing these markets, emphasizing that such partnerships are crucial for providing sustainable, high-quality services that meet public needs and improve service standards.
It is noteworthy that the Muharraq Central Market project features a modern market with a range of retail outlets, including 61 commercial units, 24 vegetable stalls, 36 meat shops, and 42 fish markets, as well as a "Lulu" Hypermarket located on the first floor of the building.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with the private sector in developing these markets, stressing that these types of partnerships help deliver sustainable, high-quality services that meet the needs of the public and enhance service levels.
It is worth noting that the Muharraq Central Market project includes a modern market housing a variety of retail stores, with 61 commercial units, 24 vegetable stalls, 36 meat shops, and 42 fish markets, as well as "Lulu" Hypermarket located on the first floor of the building.
The project encompasses 28,000 square meters, making it four times larger than the original market. The new facility features three levels, including a ground floor designated for parking with a capacity of approximately 180 vehicles, 61 multi-purpose commercial units, and a large hypermarket on the first floor.
