Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture: The National Environment Day is an Important Occasion to Inspire Efforts to Preserve our Environment

His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, emphasized the significance of Bahrain’s celebration of National Environment Day on February 4th each year. He stated that this occasion highlights the importance of cooperation and collective efforts to preserve the environment and achieve national goals. It aims to protect natural resources and advance sustainable development within the framework of the comprehensive sustainable development journey led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

HE the Minister stated that National Environment Day is an annual occasion that enhances environmental awareness within the community and encourages positive behavior in preserving the environment. He emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to exerting maximum efforts to protect the environment and its resources.

He further noted that in 2024, Bahrain adopted several key environmental initiatives, most notably the launch of Tree Week by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Set to take place in the third week of October each year, this initiative aims to raise environmental awareness, promote eco-friendly practices, and expand green spaces. It supports Bahrain’s afforestation plan, which targets the planting of 3.6 million trees by 2035, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

Al Mubarak also praised the role of the Supreme Council for Environment, led by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment, in adopting policies that promote recycling, waste reduction, and afforestation. In this regard, the minister highlighted the launch of the “Bahrain Mangroves” initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa as one of the key environmental initiatives of 2024. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove planting in Bahrain and strengthen community partnerships to achieve various environmental goals.

HE also noted that the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture is implementing several pioneering environmental projects focused on afforestation, waste management improvement, and the development of innovative environmental solutions. He reiterated the importance of National Environment Day in fostering environmental awareness, strengthening collective commitment to preserving natural resources, and highlighting environmental challenges. He further underscored the government's ongoing efforts to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations.
