In celebration of World Habitat Day, His Excellency Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain recognizes the importance of enhancing the active role of youth in developing and creating the present and the future. This commitment aligns with the comprehensive development vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported and closely followed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. HE noted that the UN Habitat chose the topic “Engaging Youth in Creating a Better Urban Future” as the theme for this year’s World Habitat Day, reflecting the global emphasis on youth engagement, particularly in urban development—a top priority for both the UN and governments worldwide.
HE expressed that youth are the real asset of the future, noting the wide praise that the Kingdom of Bahrain has received from both the United Nations Development Program and the UN Habitat in light of the Kingdom's continuous interest in urban development, and its tireless endeavor to launch various qualitative initiatives aimed at enhancing the future of urban development in the country.
HE explained that the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture places great emphasis on urban development, supporting community partnerships and prioritizing initiatives that engage youth in building a better urban future. He referred in this aspect to the National Afforestation Plan, which aims to double the number of trees in the Kingdom of Bahrain by year 2035, discussing important national projects relating to gardens, parks, markets, beautification, and afforestation.
