Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs Inaugurates New Fleet of Sanitation Vehicles for Capital and Muharraq Governorates
Engineer Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued commitment to adopting advanced technologies and modern systems to elevate cleanliness standards across all governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain. These efforts aim to enhance operational efficiency, promote a clean and sustainable environment, and ensure the long-term sustainability of environmental services and overall quality of life.
This came during the inauguration of the new service fleet of Gulf Cleaning Company, attended by Mr. Sameer Abdulla Nass, Chairman of Nass Group, Engineer Saleh Taher Tarada, Chairman of the Capital Municipal Council, Mr. Abdulaziz Ahmed Al-Naar, Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, along with a number of officials and municipal council members.
The inauguration showcased the fleet of vehicles and containers prepared by the Capital Municipality and Muharraq Municipality. It also featured new plastic waste containers manufactured to globally approved environmental standards, as well as new containers specifically designed for recycling. A total of 300 recycling centers will be distributed across the Kingdom, including approximately 150 centers in the Capital and Muharraq Governorates.
The Undersecretary stated that the updated fleet, part of the new cleaning contract for the Capital and Muharraq Governorates, will contribute to enhancing and advancing cleanliness efforts in both regions. The new fleet includes advanced waste collection vehicles, among them automated container-washing vehicles, which represent cutting-edge technology. The fleet also includes vehicles for sweeping fine sand along roadsides, equipped with water-spraying systems to suppress dust, as well as a coastal-cleaning boat fitted with net arms to collect debris within 10 meters of the shoreline. He further explained that the newly distributed containers are made of plastic as a more sustainable alternative. The 1,100-liter plastic bins are highly durable, lightweight, and environmentally friendly, reducing noise during transportation and waste removal.
Engineer Saleh Taher Tarada, Chairman of the Capital Municipal Council, praised the launch of the new sanitation fleet, considering it a reflection of Bahrain’s strategic goals to adopt technical and administrative measures that help manage waste levels, support waste segregation practices, and maintain high cleanliness standards in the Capital Governorate.
Mr. Abdulaziz Ahmed Al-Naar, Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, also emphasized the significance of launching the new fleet, highlighting the important role of the new equipment in enhancing cleanliness across the Muharraq Governorate.
