About the project

The idea of establishing the farmers' market came based on the directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the country's King, President of the Supreme Council for Women, and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development. Which was keen to support the agricultural sector, Bahraini farmers and breeders through sound guidance to develop this sector, which secures an essential part of the country’s food security and opens up high-quality local production and agricultural horizons, in line with consumer needs.

 

The Bahraini Farmers Market Project, which is organized by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture starting in December of each year in the Budaiya Botanical Garden on Saturday of every week, is considered one of the pioneering and important projects in Bahrain, which directly contributes to improving the agricultural situation and supporting national production. Providing a local product.

 

This vital project focuses, among its objectives, on solving the marketing problem for Bahraini farmers, and introducing citizens and residents to Bahraini farms and their various products. It also contributes to supporting agricultural awareness efforts, creating an opportunity for entertainment for citizens and residents, and strengthening community partnerships with civil society institutions.

Since its launch on December 8, 2012, the project has contributed to highlighting Bahraini farmers, helping them market their products, and creating a source of livelihood that helps them provide for their families’ needs, while at the same time motivating them to continue working in this profession and adhere to it, as a social heritage for which the Kingdom of Bahrain has been famous since ancient times. . Since its inauguration until now, the farmers' market, which opens its doors every Saturday, has been able to attract large numbers of visitors.
