Northern Area Municipality cooperates with STC Bahrain Launches Ramadan Program “Plant a tree; Reward and Charity”

By mutual cooperation between STC Bahrain and the Northern Municipal Council; Northern Area Municipality launched the fourth copy of “Our Environment is Different in The benevolence Month”. This year’s slogan is “Plant a tree; Reward and Charity”. It carries the messages of encouragement of the public to participate in afforestation efforts and enforcement of environmental awareness.

Northern Area Municipality’s General Director Eng. Lamya Al Fadhala Said that this initiative is part of many initiatives and polices implemented by the ministry of works, municipal affairs and urban planning designed to increase afforestation and incentivize all stakeholders to participate in afforestation projects and the increase of green areas. These efforts shall preserve the environment and achieve sustainable development. All of which would positively impact the weather improvement and reduction of heat temperatures and preserving the biological diversity of local trees species.

Al Fadhala further indicated that afforestation is valuable for individuals, communities and the environment in general as it was mentioned in the holy Quran 26 times. As it was also mentioned by Prophet Mohammed Piece be upon him in hadeeth forbidding cutting of trees even in war. All for their great benefits to the environmental and climate balance.

She also referred to the guidance provided by the minister of works, municipal affairs and urban planning; Eng. Essam Abdulla Khalaf and the Undersecretary Shk. Mohammed bi Ahmed al Khalifa of the importance of campaigning to raise the environmental awareness and encouraging the community to plant trees.

Al Fadhala declared that Northern Area Municipality had received a generous donation of 10000 trees from Bahrain’s STC as part of “Trees for Life” initiative launched last year. As 3000 tree sprouts would be dedicated for distribution for the public to encourage planting trees at their houses. An number 17985020 and an electronic form to register participants.

Al Fadalha continued that the next 7000 trees shall be dedicated to be planted on the roads by Northern Garden Friends.

Al Fadhala indicated that those initiatives assert the social responsibility towards the environment. It also, cement the cooperation and partnership between the public and private sectors in maintaining and increasing the green areas and afforestation. Those initiatives fend for climate change, preserving the environment, desertification and improvement of air quality.
