The Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture: Continuing Efforts to Ensure the Safety of Animal Products and Enhance their Sustainability.
HE Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety of animal products thereby enhancing consumer health. HE highlighted the establishment of a legal framework that regulates the licensing of related establishments, streamlines procedures, and ensures compliance with laws and regulations.
The Minister stated that Decision No. (141) of 2024, regarding the issuance of regulation that determines the specifications and licensing requirements for animal production facilities has governed the operation of these establishments by requiring them to obtain official permits, provided they meet the necessary technical and environmental standards that ensure consumer health and environmental protection. He emphasized that this framework aligns with efforts to develop the animal production sector and enhance its sustainability, contributing to improved quality and safety of animal products. It also reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to the environmental and health laws and regulations adopted by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
HE highlighted the significance of this decision in advancing the livestock sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain and enhancing the quality of animal production, aligning with the Kingdom's vision to achieve food security and strengthen its position as a regional hub for livestock trade.
It is important to note that the decision outlines the required spaces for animals within establishments, detailing the minimum space acceptable for animal production facilities. Additionally, the decision includes specific requirements for poultry sheds and dairy and meat production facilities, stressing the need for adequate space, with a minimum of 1,000 square meters per poultry shed in poultry production establishments. This is in compliance with the Animal Welfare Law No. (52) of 2014 for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
