Undersecretary for Municipalities Affairs Participates in the 12th Gulf Municipal Work Conference in Riyadh

HE Eng. Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmad Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipalities Affairs, participated in the 12th Gulf Municipal Work Conference, titled "Sustainability in Municipal Work – Trends and Opportunities," which commenced today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The conference, running from October 6th to October 8th, discusses issues related to the sustainability of municipal work and facilitates the exchange of experiences and best practices among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.

The Undersecretary emphasized the importance of enhancing integration within the Gulf municipal work system. He expressed his hope that the conference would lead to further development of municipal work and open new horizons by leveraging scientific advancements and exchanging knowledge between the GCC countries.

The conference covers various topics, including municipal work sustainability, with discussions on modern trends and successful practices in urban planning, sustainable design, waste management, recycling, and the use of renewable energy systems. It also addresses adapting to climate change in the Gulf region, strengthening municipal partnerships, and promoting community participation in achieving sustainability within the sector. Additionally, it highlights the importance of developing human resources through educational and training programs.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture participated with a booth at the accompanying municipal exhibition, showcasing a number of future projects. During the conference, projects participating in the GCC Municipal Work Award for the 2022-2023 cycle were presented, and a select group of winners from various Gulf municipalities was honored.

The participating delegation included several members of municipal councils, Directors-General, and officials from the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.
