Northern Area Municipality inaugurates the Environmental Initiative Ashura We Rise 13 inder the slogan (Ashura is the Planting Season)

The Director General of the Norther Area Municipality, Eng. Lamya Al-Fadhala, inaugurated the environmental initiative (Ashura We Rise) in its thirteenth edition virtually, in cooperation with the Municipal Council and the Jaffaria Waqf, under the slogan (Ashura is the planting season).

 

The inauguration was attended virtually by Vice President of Northern Area Municipal Council, Yassin Zainal, member of the Board of Directors of the Jaffaria Waqf, Abdul Majeed Al-Sheikh Mansour Al-Sitri, Brigadier Adel Al-Mahzaa, Deputy Director-General of the Northern Governorate Police Directorate, General Manager of the Urbaser Cleaning Company, members of the Northern Area Municipal Council, and heads of the men’s and women’s ma’tams’ administrations.

The Municipality announced the winners of the (Ashura We Raise 12) competition, where the Imam al-Hassan Al-Mujtaba ma’tam administration from Damistan won the first place as the best ma’tam administration for environmental practices in the category of men’s ma’tams, and the Karzakan Ma’tam administration for women won the first place in the women’s ma’tams category.

The Director General of the Norther Area Municipality, Eng. Lamya Al-Fadhala, said that the occasion of Ashura, which Bahrain celebrates annually, reflects the reality of interdependence and cohesion among this honorable people, as well as the values of tolerance, cohesion and pluralism in Bahrain society, which is under the auspices of the political leadership in the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, may God protect and preserve him, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him.

Al-Fadhala referred to the directives of the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, to provide the best municipal services to citizens and residents, the most important of which are hygiene services and community awareness.

 Al-Fadhala explained that Ashura We Rise this year will be launched under the slogan (Ashura is the Planting Season) with the aim of instilling environmental values and preserving the cleanliness of the environment, which is a means and a goal at the same time, it is a goal that we all seek to achieve and reach, and it is a means to reach to the great goal of seeking the pleasure of God Almighty.

She added that our motto on Ashura this year intersects with the dream of the Northern Area Municipality in the month of Ramadan (plant a tree of reward and charity), where the municipality will distribute seedlings to the ma’tams, with the aim of encouraging them to participate in afforestation, instilling environmental values, and enhancing community awareness.

Al-Fadala praised the ma’tams through participating in the initiatives put forward by the Municipality that promote human and environmental values, and their active role in increasing environmental awareness and achieving the goals of the program, such as participating in awareness-raising and participating with the Municipality in improving the level of hygiene during the season.

For his part, Vice President of Northern Area Municipal Council, Yassin Zainal, said, we are here in the northern area.. year after year.. and during the Ashura season, the Northern Area Municipality, with its two wings, the Municipal Council and the executive, and with the support of the northern ma’tams including women and men, holds the campaign of Ashura We Rise to raise awareness, guide and preserve the environment with the continuation of innovations and creative ideas. In this blessed meeting, we invest the opportunity to call on all men's and women's ma’tams, processions and hostels to adopt the best ways and methods to rationalize spending and preserve the environment.

In addition, member of Board of Directors of the Jaffaria Waqf, Mr. Abdul Majeed Al-Sheikh Mansour Al-Sitri, said that the welcomes the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate sustainability of these initiatives aimed at investing the Ashura season of Imam Hussein (PBUH) in raising the awareness of society towards the noble values related to protecting health and the environment, and he praised the efforts of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and the Northern Area Municipality and its relentless endeavor to enhance community partnership with the community, individuals and institutions, among which is the M’atam, which represents an entity that attracts many segments of society, and which has turned into a platform for awareness and dissemination of best environmental practices.

For his part, the Executive Director of Urbaser, Mr. Louis, said, "A work team has been formed and mechanisms have been prepared to sweep the streets, vehicles, and workers. They started sweeping and washing the roads surrounding ma’tams and hussainiyas in preparation for Ashura activities."

The representative of the ma’tams, Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al-Shuwaikh, said that we, as ma’tams and hussainiyas, value this initiative and this continuity in organizing this wonderful, civilized program. He called on the ma’tams in Bahrain to welcome this season by launching the planting campaign, making awareness banners, filming short films, and employing social media platforms to achieve the goals of this campaign.
