Al-Busaiteen Waterfront Walkway

Al-Busaiteen Waterfront Walkway has become a favored destination for many citizens and residents, offering an ideal environment for families and individuals alike. Visitors are taken on a scenic journey in the open air, with countless opportunities for enjoyment. In addition to its pleasant atmosphere conducive to sports and various recreational activities, the walkway boasts a stunning seafront view, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts.

Inaugurated on Bahrain's National Sports Day, February 11, 2020, the walkway presents an excellent opportunity for walking and outdoor exercise amidst breathtaking natural scenery. Stretching over a length of 2 kilometers, the project includes a public plaza, green spaces, family rest areas, exercise equipment, recreational facilities, a restaurant, public amenities, and parking for more than 400 vehicles. A dedicated access road with a single lane in each direction was also constructed to facilitate access to the site.

Al-Busaiteen Waterfront Walkway is one of the most significant coastal development projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain, aligned with Bahrain Vision 2030. It features a 2-kilometer-long seafront with a 10-meter-wide walking track covering 18,000 square meters.

This project marks Bahrain’s first coastal development powered by renewable energy and includes approximately 78 fitness and activity stations, making it the largest of its kind.

The project cost totaled BHD 1.829 million and spans over 43,000 square meters. It stands as one of the strategic initiatives aimed at developing the coastal areas of Muharraq Governorate, providing a comprehensive recreational and family-friendly space that supports domestic tourism and offers a new outdoor outlet for Bahraini families.

The Ministry was keen to execute the project in accordance with the established work plan and in coordination with the Muharraq Municipal Council. Pursuant to the provisions of the Strategic Spatial Plan issued by Decree No. (24) of 2008 and Decree No. (36) of 2016, has designated several sites across the Kingdom of Bahrain in general, and in the Muharraq Governorate in particular, as waterfronts and public coastal areas.

The walkway also hosts a range of national events and entertainment activities with a modern and inclusive atmosphere suitable for all ages. It provides a platform for artistic programs and youth engagement, encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences among visitors in a vibrant and interactive setting that reflects the essence of Bahraini society.

As the first project of its kind in Bahrain to operate on renewable energy, Al-Busaiteen Seafront Walkway reflects the Ministry’s commitment to modern, sustainable development. The Ministry has placed significant emphasis on the development of coastal areas and their facilities throughout the Muharraq Governorate, ensuring they are equipped with contemporary public and recreational services to meet the community’s needs.

As part of its ongoing commitment to service excellence and in line with the principles of total quality management, the municipality ensures daily maintenance and cleanliness of the walkway’s facilities, including washing pavements, manual and mechanical sweeping, and removal of dust and debris.

The Ministry remains dedicated to enhancing the walkway with various amenities for all age groups, establishing it as a vital recreational space that aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
