Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Commends the Cabinet’s Approval of the “Tree Week” Initiative

His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, commended the Cabinet’s decision to launch the “Tree Week” initiative during the third week of October each year. The intiative aims to enhance environmental awareness in society, encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly practices and spread green spaces, thus supporting the implementation of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Afforestation Plan and its goals of planting 3.6 million trees by 2035, noting that this decision reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to reach zero neutrality by the year 2060.

HE The Minister also explained that the act of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, planting a tree to mark the launch of Tree Week serves as the greatest incentive for all sectors to take responsibility in this community effort. He expressed his sincere gratitude to His Royal Highness for this important step toward achieving the desired climate goals and advancing national objectives in planting trees.

HE Al Mubarak added, "Starting today, a series of events will kick off as part of the 'Tree Week' initiative, with participation from various sectors, including public and private entities, local communities, and municipal councils. These events will feature a range of initiatives designed to highlight the importance of afforestation and promote environmentally responsible behavior across all segments of society."

He added, "During this week, and through these activities involving various groups and sectors, the Kingdom of Bahrain is keen to promote environmental culture, raise environmental awareness among citizens and residents, and strengthen the values of green environment and sustainable development. The initiative also encourages the use of eco-friendly technologies and enhances community participation in environmental conservation."

The Minister of Municipalities Affairs concluded by stating that Tree Week aims to amplify the outcomes of the National Afforestation Plan, which seeks to increase the number of trees in government projects, promote community partnerships to expand green spaces, and provide supportive policies for afforestation. It also encourages individuals to participate in tree planting, which is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions by increasing the number of mangrove trees fourfold and doubling the overall tree count in Bahrain as part of the nation’s goals for 2035.
